How to configure Global Search in Oracle Cloud Applications?

In this article, we will look into how to configure the Global Search.

Global Search is the Search Box that appears at the top of the screen from where we can search for other employees, Direct Reports, Saved Searches, Recent Items, etc.

We have many configuration options while setting up global search which will control the behaviour of the search option.

Table of Contents

We need to Enable the Profile OptionGlobal Search Enabled (FUSION_APPS_SEARCH_ENABLED) at the site level and set the value to Yes at site level. Only after this setup, the search bar will appear.

We need to logout and login in order to get this reflected. Global Search can be seen below:

Note: Enabling global search is the only mandatory setup. We can skip the following setup steps, and just use the default configuration for the global search.

Use the following tasks in the Application Extensions functional area to control how the global search works:

Manage Applications Core Global Search Configurations:

Define configurations that capture a collection of settings, and determine which configurations are enabled or used as default. Each configuration applies to the global search on all or specific applications or pages.

Manage Applications Core Global Search Suggestion Groups:

Define suggestion groups, which represent categories of suggestions in the autosuggest.

Retain Recent Items

We can set the Recent Items Retention (FND_PURGE_RECENT_ITEMS) profile option to determine how long to retain recent items for the global search autosuggest. A page that the user opened can appear in the user’s autosuggest until the specified number of days passes.

We can also configure the global search to search for the content in the specific content types of attachments. We can also configure the maximum size of attachment and content size. We can enable it using the profile option – Enable Search Attachment (ORA_FND_SEARCH_ATTACH_ENABLED)

We can setup filters, Autosuggest and search for the saved search and Recent Search.
