How to monitor External Career Site using Google Search Console?

In this article, we will look into how to monitor the traffic on the External Career Site using Google Search Console.

If you are new to Google Search Console, here is a brief overview of it.

Search Console tools and reports help you measure your site’s Search traffic and performance, fix issues, and make your site shine in Google Search results.

Let me show some stats from my blog to get an idea on how the Google Search metrics look like:

We can get all of these insights from Google Search Console by using this feature. By looking at these metrics, we can change our approach or strategy of implementing things if we notice any area in which we are lagging behind.

Now, let’s get back to how to add the external career site to Google Search Console.

We need to create an account with Google and then add a property (external career site).

Click on Add Property and select the “URL prefix” option as the domain will be owned by oracle.

Copy paste the external career site hyperlink in the “Enter URL” and click continue.

Don’t use the complete career site link. truncate it to till CandidateExperience as there is a chance of creating new versions if there are any changes. If we add this CandidateExperience link it will track all links beneath that root.

Once we click on continue, Google will provide us with multiple verification options.

Of all these methods, the only method that we can use for ORC is the HTML tag.

Click on HTML tag and it will show a verification code

We need to copy the verification code starting with 1qYtzc…. till the end

Now, we need to add this verification code as a profile option value for the ORA_IRC_CE_GJS_VERIFICATION_CODE profile option. If this profile option doesn’t exist, we need to add the profile option before adding value.

Creating Profile Option if it doesn’t exist.

Adding Profile Value

This profile option ORA_IRC_CE_GJS_VERIFICATION_CODE has been added from 21C. However it has been backported to 21A, so it will work for all customers who are on 21A and above.

Once you add the verification code to this profile option under Manage Administrator Profile values, get back to google search console and hit verify.

Once the property (external career site) is verified, Google will start tracking it with the help of an HTML tag and provide you metrics on a monthly basis. We can log in anytime and check the stats on a need basis.

This post was inspired by a discussion on Cloud Customer Connect discussion regarding this feature.

This is an interesting functionality and will be very useful for end clients in assessing the reach of their career site.
